Well, the boys are celebrating 10 years of Mountain Goat. To do so, they've been heading on a tour around the country with some kegs and an armful of t-shirts to give away to the faithful.
I managed to sneak away at lunchtime to Young and Jackson's and score a couple of free frothies there at Melbourne's World-famous Chloe's Bar before later in the day, the whole family hooked up to go to the brewery together.
Dave and Cam were rapt to see us and, as usual, Genevieve had a ball, amusing herself, and other patrons, by dancing and waving.
My Aunty Verna turned 80, so there was a big party at my Cousin's - Kerrie. We were lured by the prospect of some great food (CWA Cookbook goodness), but once we got there, we realised the highlight would be the fact that Genevieve would get to see (and hear) cows and sheep in real life.
Nanna really wanted to show her off so it was a given that we'd go. I also managed to get a haircut beforehand too, so she was happy about that (although she didn't want to say anything about it).The food was great. The sponge was awesome (I generally don't like sponge). There was a huge array of slices including one with bananas in it. No... not 'real' bananas. The lolly ones! Hey... don't knock it until you've tried it!
She made herself happy by scrawling on the table's white paper with some (restaurant-supplied) crayons, before tucking into a variety of excellent Italian dishes:
- Bread
- Calamari
- Cheese-filled polenta balls
- Bruscetta - one with basil, boccancini and tomato and one with olive tapanade and eggplant
- Mixed steamed vegetables
- Large ravioli with cheese filling in a napoli sauce
- Gnocci in a pesto cream sauce.
Of course, the distinct benefit of not riding (apart from not getting rained upon and buffeted by winds) is to spend some quality daddy/daughter time with the increasingly beautiful Genevieve Claudia.
She's actually very well behaved for me. If she doesn't get her way, there's sometimes a little whinge, but then she'll move on. (I do feel for Naomi though - for is she's within sight, Genevieve demands 100% of her attention most of the time).
So we played a lot, slept a bit and I even managed to read the paper for a while while she kept herself entertained, playing and talking to herself. Of course, it was yesterday's paper (I hadn't managed to open it on Saturday). And I only managed the motoring section and a few headlines, but it least it was the paper and it was uninterrupted.
Next, on to feed time. And it isn't so much a matter of when the cat's away... more just that Naomi really can't stand the smell of fish and in any case, the actual content of fish fingers is pretty dubious and they don't smell great.
But Vievey loves them (she ate around 8 I think... hard to tell as she'd happily move onto the next before she'd finished the one she was munching on).
So to counter the fat and chemicals, it was onto some fresh fruit, which she polished off faster than the fish.
So I'm looking forward to getting out on the bike next week, but I'm also looking forward to the Sunday after that...
Today Pop (my dad) came down for a visit so we went out for lunch to the local cafe strip. Genevieve was a big girl and sat in her own chair, had her own chocolate milk and her own lunch. However, she did seem to prefer tasting what everyone else had ordered.
two and a half lunches
at child care yesterday. (The meal was a chicken and vegetable curry with rice).
Oh... and she then went on to eat all her dinner and one and a half yoghurts!
Piggy-wig!
The lull in the rain had passed, so we thought we' get a feed, and the local noodle place looked like the best option. Here is Genevieve and Naomi enjoying a vegetarian Mee Gorreng.
